UPDATED INFO ABOUT RECREATION MINISTRY FACILITY OPENING

Dear Recreation Ministry Participants,

Christ United Recreation Ministry’s Recreation facility has plans to reopen on July 6th, 2020, with our normal operation hours - Monday through Friday, 6am-9pm and Saturday from 8am-6pm.

This is our plan and we are praying this will be what our guidelines continue to suggest as we go through the next few weeks. If there are any changes in the July 6th opening date, we will be sure to communicate it ASAP.

Our first concern is that all of our participants should read and comply with the CDC’s and Alabama Public Health Department’s GUIDELINES FOR ATHLETIC FACILITIES. We will be following this.

The way we operate our facility will change until further notice.

We will be taking 30-minute reservations, one week at a time, for use of the track and the fitness room. 8 people will be able to be on the track and 4 people in the fitness room for each 30-minute reservation. You can reserve as many 30 min time slots as you need but only one week at a time and it can be a combination of the walking track and the fitness room. You’ll just need to specify each one because there will be two different sets of reservations.

We will only be taking these reservations by phone at 251-706-3326.

We will begin reservations for the week of July 6th on Wednesday, July 1st (we will be closed Friday, July 3rd & Saturday, July 4th).

The fitness room machines will be placed in such a way that it facilitates the social distancing suggestions. This means some machines may not be available. They will be clearly taped off and signs placed on them so you will recognize such.

The walking track will have only one area suitable for “passing” other walkers/runners who may not be at the same pace as you. This area is behind the upstairs stage area – behind the curtains. Please respect this as our track width everywhere else is not the proper width for passing when it comes to the social distancing guidelines.

When signing to use the facility, you will need to sign in with your name, email address, and current phone number and you will have your temperature taken.
Pickleball will resume with social distancing guidelines when waiting. This is a non-contact sport.

The basketball gym is not open for any type of contact sport until further notice of guideline allowances for social distancing.

Like most of us, we are very excited we have the opportunity to reopen, even in limited ways. We want to respect the guidelines and provide a place for you to enjoy being active again. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. We are ready to see you all again and pray you are well and safe!

C-Sports with Rose Farnell | 6-10-2020

C-Sports will be getting ready to play sports again here at Christ United. We are kicking off the 2020 soccer season with registration starting on June 10th!

We are beyond excited to get outside with our C-Sports families again! That being said, we will have many limitations we have to comply with according to the COVID-19 Guidelines for Adult and Youth Athletic Activities.

The C-Sports will begin a season of soccer with online only registration beginning Wednesday, June 10th.

Please read the 2020 Soccer Parent Information and the Guidelines for Adult and Youth Athletic Activities PRIOR TO REGISTERING provided to for you on our website at https://christunitedcsports.com/covid19-info-forms. This contains IMPORTANT INFORMATION you need to know before you complete registration and attend evaluations.

Most of our usual procedures have changed due to the restrictions. Please know that we cannot allow exceptions. If you arrive on campus unaware of the changes and are not in compliance, we cannot make an exception. Please be sure you read and follow the guidelines and the soccer parent information we have carefully put together for you.

Registration will be different. There is a separate registration form for K4, A separate registration form for K5, as well as 1st/2nd grade combined, 3rd/4th and 5th/6th grade combined.

Player evaluations will be very different. Each age group has its own day of evaluations. Only one parent/guardian may bring their child at the appropriate day and time and do not bring siblings or any extra family members.

The draft process will be different. The league will be smaller this year and we will not be able to take special requests. Even though this is our usual request that you do not request special placements, these circumstances make it even more difficult to accommodate even the most special requests.

Practices will be different. There will be only one practice per week per age group. Parents must know the COVID guidelines and must communicate this info to their children and our volunteer coaches will work to help them comply.

Picture day will be different. We will have two picture dates to accommodate social distancing requirements. Again, like evaluations, only one parent per child will be able to be in the building. Teams will not meet prior to picture time – there will not be a team picture taken.

Playing games on campus will also be different this season. The K4 and K5 league will practice for the first 2 weeks and then begin games at their practice day and time. The 1st thru the 6th grade leagues will have games on Saturday mornings.

Mark your calendars!! Coach Richard Moodie and all of the Lady Jag players from the University of South Alabama will help us start the season with a player clinic on Saturday, August 8th from 8 to 9:30am.

We understand this is quite different but we are beyond blessed that we can offer up this sport, even in a limited way, to our families. We all need to be very diligent in following the COVID guidelines and help us all have a wonderful season.

Continuing our Habits During Hiatus | Marcia Horn | 6-5-2020

Today is another beautiful day to be outside but we know storms are coming. How we prepare and deal with these storms are rooted in our habits. We prepare ahead of time and use our past experiences to guide us in how we should or shouldn’t handle the situation. If we didn’t have our habits and knowledge, we may not be able to “weather” the storms as they say.

Plan ahead to have an exercise you can do indoors on the stormy days that will give you similar results to what you would be doing outside. If you walk or run, try doing some body weight exercises such as lunges or squats. One set (10) of each will burn 100 calories—the same as walking briskly for 1 mile (12 laps around our indoor track). You can also do leg raises and pushups. Plan ahead and prepare to not miss your habit of exercise!

“Be dressed in readiness, and keep your lamps lit.” Luke 12:35

Continuing Our Habits During Hiatus | Marcia Horn | 5-29-2020

Today's message is about FOCUSING. Just this morning I had a hard time with focusing so I thought I would share what I learned from it. Applying this to all aspects of life is a good habit but especially when it comes to your health. Check out the video and also find out more information about the possible time frame of when we can reopen.

"Let your eyes look directly ahead
And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you." Proverbs 4:25
