Christ United Church Pickleball Guidelines

Welcome to the Recreation Ministry at Christ United Church. As we have recently seen that Pickleball is a popular activity, one in which friends can compete in a fun and non-adversarial manner, we have taken steps to make our facilities more conducive to quality play.

As you know, our gym is multi-purpose in that we have other court markings for our many year-round sports such as basketball and volleyball league play. As such, our lines for each activity are a “quieter” color so as to blend with the existing décor. Some lines are incorporated into other lines so as to maintain the integrity of each activity. We also host many other events in our multipurpose facility which can change our pickleball schedules.

Games are typically to 11 / win by 2. All players rotate off as soon as the game ends.

Please see schedule below and follow these rules:

When we are in OPEN PLAY programming, there are *6 courts available (*certain days there are only 3).

  • 3 are for advanced play. Plan to play a level of competitive play and a very active game on the advanced play courts and rotate off.

  • 2 are for relaxed play For our relaxed courts, plan to enjoy fun and relaxed competitive play and rotate off. Any advanced play on these courts will be immediately directed to advanced courts. A second warning will result in an invitation to come another day.

  • 1 court is for beginners only. The beginner court is strictly for beginners only and beginners should not rotate to other courts until that level of skill is acquired. Beginner courts rotate out like the other courts.

When we have open play with only 3 courts, all skill levels are welcomed but players should follow 1 court being advanced and the remaining courts remain for other skill levels as dictated by attendance.

When we have advanced 3.5+ only open play programming, all 6 courts will be designated for advanced play. There will be no relaxed courts or beginner courts available during this time.

Regardless of the competitive environment, the interpersonal atmosphere within our church’s gym will not be compromised. The time allotted for Pickleball, as with any of our activities, will be filled with fun, pleasant, and clean communication among players, with no foul, profane, or otherwise provocative talk. Last players on the courts are asked to volunteer to pack up the equipment into their bags and place in the appropriate storage room.

Please direct any concerns or questions to the staff at the Recreation Desk. Thank you for coming to Christ United Church for enjoyable fellowship and exercise.
