From the Rec Min | Sept. 9, 2020

This was a tough week for many reasons, not just soccer! I hope you all survived with minimal damage. My soccer playing grandsons have helped me do a lot of cleaning since the storm and are probably looking forward to going back to school as soon as possible! This week isn’t looking that great, but hopefully we will still have some good practices and games in some cooler temperatures.

I’ve always felt it was important for coaches to encourage parents to participate, or at least be present, in the team devotions during each practice or game. The messages are for them, too! I want the coaches to include their own stories and add to the written materials; to personalize the experience as much as they feel led or feel comfortable doing. Let the children, and families, SEE the message as much as they HEAR it.

One of my favorite songs, and here I go getting teary eyed, is Some Things I Must Tell The Children by Gloria Gaither. I sang it to my kids at bed time when they were little. I’ve performed it at baptisms. The words remind us of the important things we must tell our children. Deuteronomy 6:5-7 says, “Love the Lord with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts. Impress them upon your children. Talk about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, and when you lie down and when you get up.” When you deliver the devotion, lead a prayer, or spiritually mentor children (with family members listening close by) you are planting seeds that you may never see bear fruit. This is our service to God. He does the rest. Our job is to first see that we, ourselves, are open and receptive to His Spirit and then to pray for His guidance as we deliver messages and interact with his people.

Prayer Partners are praying for you daily. I hope you are praying for your team and for this ministry as a whole. God is good and the Holy Spirit is at work because you committed to be His agent of love, grace, and instruction to your team. May He richly bless you for what you are doing for His kingdom!

Stay safe, healthy, and dry! Be tuned to our rec min Facebook & website for updates regarding practices and games.

C-Sports with Rose Farnell | 7-1-2020

C-Sports Families,

I am standing in front of the entrance sign here at the recreation desk; these guidelines were prepared to help us stay safe this season. We will be using these guidelines as your child comes into the Christ Center for player evaluations later in the month of July. Let’s take a look at the sign. Remember to be prepared for the season by reading parent information and the guidelines for athletics that are available to you on the website.

Soccer registration is still open on the website for all age groups so if you have not signed up you really need to do so. We are in need of coaching volunteers so if you are thinking about coaching this season, we need you.

Parents, thank you for your support of the Recreation Ministry of Christ United Methodist Church and thank you for helping us to serve in this community by

Loving God. Loving Children and Families…. and helping to change this community through the sports ministry.

God Bless and have a safe 4th of July.

Continuing Our Habits During Hiatus | Marcia Horn | 6-19-2020

We are gearing up to open our doors soon! As we all at the Rec Min prepare to have a new way of having our facility open, it is giving a good example for me to share on how this compares to our fitness lives.

The first example may be knowing our limits. We cannot possibly expect to work out so little that we expect results. We also cannot work out so hard that we are miserably sore and it turns us away from it. There is a place in between where we benefit the most and knowing that place takes practice and transition time. Work out to your potential and then a little more. Do this each time and you’ll gradually, safely, transition into a beneficial workout for you.

The next example would be proper preparation. You don’t run a mile in steel toe work boots and heavy duty overalls. Getting the proper fitting shoes for the type of workout is important. Many injuries can be prevented if you know what kind of shoes you’re going to be putting on your feet that will be receiving the impact of what your body is doing during your workouts. You also need comfortable and forgiving clothing so that you can move freely without restriction. Probably the most important is proper eating and hydration. This begins the day before your workouts. Your body needs time to process this and store it so that it can use it.

Once you get into the habit of having what you need and knowing your limitations and pushing them just a little bit, you will start to see progress. This always brings a great deal of positivity and it keeps you motivated. Don’t discount how these things can be a foundation to your success.

As we prepare our facility for the safety of others and we have our proper equipment in order we know this translates into our daily habits of not only our exercise but our life in general.

Keep up your good habits and work towards pushing them just a little! We will see you soon!
