PICKLEBALL

Pickleball is a paddle sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. It is one of the fastest growing sports in the USA and is for all ages and skill levels. The rules are simple and the game is easy for beginners to learn, but can develop into a quick, fast-paced, competitive game for all players (find more info about the rules of this sport at www.usapa.org). See schedule below.

1-First time participants are free the first day! Complete a registration card at the rec desk (one time only - members of CU fill out the white cards and guests of CU fill out the yellow).

2-Purchase a 1-day pass for $3 or 6-day card for $15. Rec staff will sign off on each day you participate.

3-Log in the Pickleball log book each time.

Christ United Church Pickleball Guidelines

Welcome to the Recreation Ministry at Christ United Church. As we have recently seen that Pickleball is a popular activity, one in which friends can compete in a fun and non-adversarial manner, we have taken steps to make our facilities more conducive to quality play.

As you know, our gym is multi-purpose in that we have other court markings for our many year-round sports such as basketball and volleyball league play. As such, our lines for each activity are a “quieter” color so as to blend with the existing décor. Some lines are incorporated into other lines so as to maintain the integrity of each activity. We also host many other events in our multipurpose facility which can change our pickleball schedules.

Games are typically to 11 / win by 2. All players rotate off as soon as the game ends.

There are 6 courts. 3 are for open play, 2 are for relaxed play and 1 court is for beginners only. For the open play courts, plan to play a level of competitive play and a very active game. For our relaxed courts, plan to enjoy fun and barely competitive play on this relaxed court. Any player rotating on to the relaxed court, must play relaxed game as to not discourage waiting “relaxed” players as well as to not encourage more competitive play to take over that court’s rotations. Only beginners may play on the beginner court. This level may or may not rotate out as the other courts and the score may not dictate the end of a game due to the nature and type of play here.

Regardless of the competitive environment, the interpersonal atmosphere within our church’s gym will not be compromised. The time allotted for Pickleball, as with any of our activities, will be filled with fun, pleasant, and clean communication among players, with no foul, profane, or otherwise provocative talk. Last players on the courts are asked to volunteer to pack up the equipment into their bags and place in the appropriate storage room.

Please direct any concerns or questions to the staff at the Recreation Desk. Thank you for coming to Christ United Church for enjoyable fellowship and exercise.

Director of Recreation Ministry
